I’ve had several people write me and say that they are coming down to Guatemala and ask if they can bring me anything. I always freeze in the moment and can’t think of a darn thing! So, I’m starting this page where I can put up things as they occur to me.
If you are coming down to Guatemala and are interested in helping an expat family out, there are a few ways to go . . .
1. Let me know ahead of time and I can make a purchase on Ebay or Amazon and have it sent to your home so you can bring it down.
2. If you are from Canada, let me know if you would be willing to bring something from my family . . . my parents can send it to you anywhere in Canada. These items would likely be small wooden toys, puzzles, and maybe books or some food items. Contact me and I’ll put you in touch with my dad.
3. Check out the wishlist below and see if there is anything you have access to.
- Seeds. I’m trying to get a garden going and seeds are always handy! Particularly interested in Asian veggies, melons and squashes, and interesting plants.
- Books. We LOVE books around here! Anything goes, old novels you want to get rid of, kid’s books, textbooks, readers, cookbooks, we love them all. Used is fine!
Specific books we’d love to get our paws on:
- Nourishing Traditions
- Anything Berenstein Bear (we have the Manners one)
- School workbooks for K-Grade 2
- Enid Blyton books (Famous Five, etc.)
- Anything Franklin
- Blueberries for Sal
- Anything Usborne or Scholastic
- Cheese cultures. Weird as this might sound, we can use some cheese cultures which are probably easier for Americans and Canadians to find. They come in powder form, so are easy to transport in a suitcase.
- Magazines. I’m a huge fan of English magazines, so if you feel like hauling down a couple of your old ones, I’d love to take them off your hands. My particular interests are Parenting, Gardening, Cooking, Decorating, Craft, Crochet, Sewing, and any Women’s Intest (Good Housekeeping, Women’s Day, etc.) Couldn’t care less if they are months or even years old, they’ll be new to me!
- Twizzlers and Easter candy. I’m a sucker for these and they don’t have them down here.
- Cookie Cutters. Yes, Guatemala is severely lacking in these and while I have some that my mom sent down, you can never have too many.
