Yet More Fun Food

Posted on June 12, 2008 - Filed Under Food |

Today I got out my bento stuff again, now that it´s so easy to wash all those little bits and pieces, and made some fun lunches for the boys. Today I made the same thing for both of them since Dante is pretty much eating whatever Dorian eats. They were a big hit.

Dorian got up from his nap and said, “OH WOW!” when he saw his lunch, which made me pretty darn happy. :)

The first one is Dorian´s and the second was Dante´s. And here are the eggs that I made, all four of them . . . (Irving and I ate the other two).

The egg molds that I got are so cool! You just boil the eggs and then peel them hot and put them into the molds. A bit squishes out the sides as you secure the clamps, but it´s fine, you can trim it later. Then you stick them in the fridge for a while to cool and pop them out. Very neat. I did find that with the more detailed ones, like the car and fish, I have to rub some oil in the mold to help it release a bit better.

These look so kewl!!! But what are the bits and pieces though?

I see some tomatoes, carrots (orange stars?), but what are the other stars and the green??

The other stars are pan-fried garlic-oregano potato stars and the green was frozen lime JELLO (which was an accident, I wanted them to set fast and left them too long in the freezer!). Oh, and there is ketchup in the little animal containers.

How cool…I can’t believe you can boil the eggs first, then get them to conform to the cute little mold. You are a genius Genesis. Your boys are blessed.

Kimmie, I had no idea either until I started learning about bento and found these cute egg molds. I bought two sets off ebay, but they have more with girly designs like Hello Kitty. It´s such a cool idea!
