You Never Said Not to Look

Posted on October 31, 2008 - Filed Under Kids |

This morning, I was really, really, really overtired from staying up until 2 am to finish up some articles. Dorian was up at 5 and I barely staggered out of bed to make him tea and put on a movie.

“Don`t touch the sugar.” I said, groggily and tumbled back into bed. See, we have no upper cupboards, so my sugar is in what used to be a safe spot, at the back of the counter, until about a month ago when my little genius children realized they can just push a chair against the counter, climb up and grab the sugar. Not a problem during awake hours because I`m right there, one of the advantages of having your office in the kitchen. But the other day, I turned my back for a few minutes and Dorian had a big old scoop full of sugar and was hiding in the corner gobbling it up.

So, I went back to bed and about 15 min. later I hear a kitchen chair scraping across the floor. I was tired. I thought about getting up but didn`t. I snoozed a little more. Then I thought about all the mess sugar would make everywhere on the counter and floor and Dorian`s sticky hands . . . so I got up.

Peeking through the doorway, I saw the chair pulled up to the counter, right in front of the sugar cannister. Dorian was on it, his elbows on the counter, chin propped on his hands, staring at the sugar. Just sitting there and staring at it. He didn`t touch it, there was not a single granule spilled, he was just looking!

Needless to say, I was so impressed I made him another cup of tea with sugar in it. ;)

Hmmm… sounds like he is going to be pushing you to the limit… Sounds a little like our dog Macc. He is fine just ’sleeping’ whilst we are in the lounge room. However, in about 2 seconds after we leave, he is slowly off to ‘check’ the cats food bowl, up the hall to see where we are (and this is where he gives the game away) and then goes back to the lounge room PASSING the bowl. Temptation sets in followed by the bowls clicking, and well he gets into trouble!!!
